Most batteries warn you for a week or two before they strand you. These are the signals, ordered by how close you are to a no-start.
The engine cranks slowly
That laboured wur-wur-wur on a warm morning is the battery failing to hold cranking voltage. Expect a no-start within days.
It only starts on the second try
The first attempt pulls the voltage down; the second borrows what is left. There is no third.
A click, then nothing
One sharp click from the starter solenoid with no crank is the classic flat-battery signature in Dubai Sports City.
Headlights dim at idle

A conventional car starts its engine perhaps 800 times a year. A start-stop car in Dubai Sports City traffic can restart 40 times in a single commute. The battery has to deliver full cranking current, then take a fast recharge from regenerative braking, forty times over - and do it at 45°C.
That is what AGM and EFB are built for. A standard flooded battery in the same slot loses plate material every cycle, and the car's energy management, which assumes an AGM charge curve, cooks it.
Most start-stop cars also need the new battery registered to the body control module. Skip that and the car keeps charging to the old battery's ageing profile, which shortens the new one and can disable start-stop entirely.

Two minutes, no tools
You can narrow it down from the driver's seat before anyone opens the bonnet. Work down the list - the first answer that fits is usually the right one.
Rapid clicking means the battery has voltage but no current to spare. One click means less than that. Silence with a dark dash means flat, a blown main fuse, or a bad earth.
Bright dash, no crank points at the starter. Dim or flickering dash that dies when you turn the key points at the battery.
Headlights that collapse to a dull orange under crank are the clearest free test there is. That is a battery at the end of its life.
That is a charging fault, not a battery fault - the alternator is not putting anything back.
12.6V rested is healthy. 12.2V is half charged. Below 12.0V will not start a hot engine, and below 10.5V under crank means replace it.
