Why it happens

The physical box - length, width, height and where the hold-down clamp bites. A DIN 74 will not sit in a JIS NS70 tray.
Reversed posts mean the cables will not reach. This is the single most common wrong-battery mistake.
How long it can run the car's electronics with the engine off. Match or exceed the original - never go below it.
