How long can it run things with the engine off?
A 70Ah battery can in theory supply 3.5 amps for twenty hours. In practice it tells you how long your parked car can feed a tracker, an alarm and the modules before it cannot start. Bigger Ah means more reserve, not more starting power.
How hard can it turn the engine?
The current the battery can deliver for thirty seconds at −18°C while staying above 7.2V. Nobody sees −18°C in Dubai Sports City, but CCA is still the honest measure of a battery's punch - and heat-damaged batteries lose CCA first.
How far can you get if the alternator quits?
Minutes of 25-amp draw before the battery drops to 10.5V. It is the number that decides whether you reach a garage or stop on Sheikh Zayed Road.
How much of the original battery is left?
What our conductance tester reports as a percentage. Under 60% is a replacement whatever the date on the label says.
Match Ah and CCA to the manufacturer's figure or go above it. Never go below either one to save money.
Read the symptoms
Most batteries warn you for a week or two before they strand you. These are the signals, ordered by how close you are to a no-start.
The engine cranks slowly
That laboured wur-wur-wur on a warm morning is the battery failing to hold cranking voltage. Expect a no-start within days.
It only starts on the second try
The first attempt pulls the voltage down; the second borrows what is left. There is no third.
A click, then nothing
One sharp click from the starter solenoid with no crank is the classic flat-battery signature in Dubai Sports City.
Headlights dim at idle
Lights that brighten when you rev are telling you the battery is not carrying its share of the load.
The battery light stays on
The dash lamp watches the charging circuit, not the battery. On means the alternator, the belt or the battery has stopped playing its part.
Electronics reset themselves
Clock, radio presets and window one-touch resetting after a night parked means the voltage is dropping below the modules' floor.
The case looks swollen
A bulging or split case is heat damage. Stop driving on it - a swollen battery can vent acid.
